GK Cheer Collecting Shoes to Help Soles4Souls in Fight Against Global Poverty
Attention anyone with a closet: Those shoes you no longer want can be donated to help those less fortunate.
GK Cheer is launching a drive to collect shoes to help the less fortunate. Athletes participating at the SouthEast Games can drop off used and new shoes at the Buford City Arena on February 25, 2017 to receive a new pair of GK Fusion™ shoes (to be shipped to their registered team’s gym).
The shoes that we collect will be delivered to Soles4Souls–a not for profit global social enterprise committed to fighting poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes and clothing. Founded in 2006, the organization has distributed more than 30 million pairs of shoes in 127 countries.
“GK Cheer is supporting Soles4Souls because it is the definition of a social enterprise where solid business practices are used to create positive change in people’s lives,” stated Kelly McKeown, Chief Design Officer & EVP of Corporate Relations of Elite Sportswear. “Elite Sportswear is a strong supporter of Soles4Souls’ anti-poverty mission, and we hope to take a big step in providing the organization with the gently used shoes they require to keep making a difference for people in need.”
Soles4Souls will convert every used pair of shoes collected from the SouthEast Games into a value-added social currency to achieve positive change, both humanitarian and economic. Most of the gently used shoes will be distributed to microenterprise programs that create jobs in Haiti and other poor nations. The resulting revenue will help fund the free distribution of new shoes in the U.S., Canada and developing nations around the world.
