F5 Rocks Worlds in GK Custom Cheer Uniform

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 by Michelle Weaver

F5 knows how to do different - or did everyone show up to Worlds in a zebra-striped stretch Hummer? One of the most talked about cheer uniforms at Worlds this year was the Maryland Twisters F5 GK cheerleading uniform.  There was lots of speculation...is it all one piece? Is it a leo? Is it see through?  From the minute the F5 athletes exited their fierce ride - the reviews began.  Spectacular! Stunning! Unlike anything seen before! The best bling ever!  One theme emerged from the chatter about the F5 uni - they made a full top fierce!

But, it wasn't a full top - it actually was a custom GK gymnastics leotard with matching shorts as many speculated!  F5 proved that an extra secure GK cheer uniform works without sacrificing style. The F5 custom, long sleeved leotard is made with Black Nylon/Spandex and Black Mesh with Shadowproof Lining giving the illusion of sheerness.  It is accented with Ocean Mystique and White Sparkle z-stitch design elements.  The matching GK cheer shorts are made with the same Black Nylon/Spandex, Ocean Mystique, and White Sparkle fabrics.  F5 raised the bar with their artistic use of Swarovski Brilliance crystals scattered all over the uniform and lighting up the F5 Logo on the front. The stunning result was a bold new look for the F5 athletes and all that bling coordinated quite nicely with their Silver Medal win for Large Senior All Girl at the Worlds Competition.  Congratulations F5!

Tara Cain, Owner, Maryland Twisters, said, “F5 is different because we can take the obvious and twist it into something innovative, not just in our skills, but also in our cheer uniforms. GK took F5’s different vision of a full top uniform and created a masterpiece. Not only is F5 different, but GK stepped up and delivered a beautifully unique uniform design. Thank you GK for creating a stunning out-of-the-box look for F5.”

Central Jersey All Stars Win Big With First GK Cheerleading Uniform!

Thursday, February 2, 2012 by Michelle Weaver
Central Jersey All Stars in Kenilworth, New Jersey, is a nationally renowned, highly competitive all star cheerleading program for girls and boys of all ages and ability levels.  Since the program's inception in 1996, CJA has captured numerous local, state, regional, national and international championships titles.  CJA chose GK this season to create their new custom cheerleading uniform.

Angel DeJesus, a Cheer Coach and Choreographer for CJA, told GK, "We are ecstatic about our new Level 5 uniforms from GK! This was our first season working with GK and our Territory Account Manager, Lynne Mensack, who made communication easy and Julia Kline from the GK Design Department was awesome! They both worked with us to achieve our ultimate goal of a clean and polished new look, but with a little extra flair to allow us to stand out like never before!  We debuted the new uniforms on December 11 at Cheersport in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  It was a huge confidence booster for our athletes. We won 1st Place!  Our team was also crowned BEST OF LEVEL 5!  GK truly stands alone and we can't wait to work with you again in the future!"
cja
Following the Cheersport competition, the Senior 5 Team went on to take 1st Place and Grand Champions at the Gotta Cheer Snow Globe Competition and then secured an AT-LARGE BID TO WORLDS at JamFest this month!  Congrats CJA!

CJA's cheer top is stunning from every angle.  Similar to Special Order 3 Strap Open Back Crop Top U136, CJA's cheer top features long sleeves, arm banding detail and a strappy open back.  CJA designed a cheer skirt similar GK's Corner Accent Cheer Skirt U709R with triangular corner detailing and side slits.  For variety, CJA also choose a cheer short similar to Low Rise Faux Belted Short U520L, a low rise cheerleading short with faux belt loops along the front and back of the comfort waistband.  All three pieces were made with Black, Rich Royal, and White Mystique and blinged out with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS across the shoulders, at the cuffs, on the front of the short and scattered over the Black Mystique portions of the skirt. CJA is boldly spelled out across the front of the cheer top in Rich Royal and White Mystique with an added layer of clear SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS to tie it all together.  Now that is a winning combination!

Meet Julie Dawson, Maryland and Delaware Area GK Cheer Territory Account Manager

Wednesday, July 6, 2011 by Michelle Weaver
Julie Dawson, the GK Elite Sportswear Territory Account manager for Maryland and Delaware, started her cheerleading experience when she began cheering back in high school.  She held on to her love for the sport by having her own cheer team at her gym, Dawson Gymnastics Academy, which she previously owned in Pennsylvania.  Julie also coached tumbling to Star Athletics when they were known previously as North Stars in New Jersey.
Julie Dawson
Julie loves being a Territory Account Manager for GK because she enjoys working with and helping others.  She says, "It is very exciting to help a customer design their GK cheerleading uniform, especially when they receive their uniform and the quality is exceptional.  No one beats GK's quality, customer service, and cutting edge designs!"

Julie's relationship with GK Elite is actually rooted in gymnastics.  Julie was the coach of a gymnastics team and says that her girls always chose GK!  She knew GK's quality and reputation for gymnastic leotards and was sure it would translate well into the cheerleading world.

Julie says, "When I first saw GK's cheerleading uniform designs with the same four way stretch fabrics that they use in their leotards, I knew they would revolutionize the industry.  GK uniforms are engineered for the athlete!  I am proud to work for GK, not only for the reasons mentioned above, but because GK is honest and sincere and if they say something... They do it!"

Meet Val, the GK Cheer Website Cover Girl!

Tuesday, February 22, 2011 by Allison Jacobs

As Maryland Twisters F5’s point flyer, our new GK Cheer website cover girl Val Rubenstein has been gaining a lot of attention from the cheer world this year. Her amazing showmanship in both stunts and tumbling has really displayed her remarkable cheerleading abilities!

Val discusses cheerleading and NCA All-Star Nationals with GK:

ValWhat is your favorite part of being an All-Star Cheerleader?
“My favorite part of being an All-Star Cheerleader is meeting people! I've met some of my very best friends and amazing coaches through the sport and I don't know what I would do without them!”

So NCA is this weekend! How are you feeling going into it?

“I'm so excited! All I can say is I'm ready! My team is working so hard to prepare for this nationals event and we want to win so badly! I'm ready to show the world what we're made of!”

What have you been doing to prepare yourself?

“I've been eating right and working out to make sure I can endure this routine flawlessly! At practices I make sure to do everything that's asked of me so that when the time comes to perform I'm prepared!”

What is your favorite part of F5's routine this year?

“My favorite part of F5's routine this year is the stunt sequence because when we hit it at competition
the thrill of hearing the crowd roar is an indescribable feeling!

Do you have any pre-performance rituals/superstitions?

“I hate splitting poles! Before we take the floor we pray and have a team talk on the floor. I also have handshakes with a few girls on the team that we do right before the music starts!”

What do you think of your GK competition cheer apparel?

“Our custom GK uniforms are amazing! Not only are they gorgeous, they are so comfortable! The crystals make them so unique from any other brand and when the lights hit them on the floor the sparkle is breathtaking!”

Her advice to other cheerleaders:
“There are no excuses for anything! When you think you have reached your absolute limits push harder and you'd be amazed at what you can do! An amazing person once told me to hope for the best and expect the worst because whatever can go wrong will and you need to be prepared to fight for every last bit of it.”

NCATA Meet: University of Maryland Squad Hosted Fairmont State - Both Wore GK Uniforms!

Tuesday, February 22, 2011 by Allison Jacobs

This month, the Competitive Cheer Squad from the University of Maryland hosted Fairmont State at a National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) meet.   The undefeated Terps, the former NCA All-Girl National Champions, now compete exclusively under NCATA, which sanctions meet-style competitions in which the squads are judged not only on their routine, but also on individual stunt groups, tumbling passes, basket tosses, and separate pyramids.
Fairmont State

University of Maryland
UMD’s Tricia Fitzgerald
gives her take on the Terps and the new type of competition:

Favorite part of NCATA:

"I'd say my favorite part of NCATA meets is the back and forth interaction with the other team. It’s great to be able to make a comeback and be able to emphasize each team's strengths. "

Hardest part about NCATA, compared to a traditional college cheerleading competition:

"I think the hardest part about the meets is that it really levels the playing field because we send our best out against their best. It makes it more exciting and challenging; it keeps us on our toes throughout the whole meet. "

How had you been preparing for the meet against Fairmont?

"In preparation to compete against Fairmont we spent a lot of time working on all of the events and improving in difficulty and execution from our previous meets. "

Terps’ Biggest Strength:

"I think our biggest strengths are the tumbling and team routine events. One of the things that’s great about UMD is the depth we have on our team. "

Thoughts on your GK Cheer Apparel:

"The GK cheerleading outfits are great! We really love our new black and yellow uniforms this year, and enjoy coming out to the song "Black and Yellow" when we wear them!"

In the end, it was a victory for the Terps, who received a final score of 275.846, ahead of Fairmont’s 270.178. Congrats on your win, UMD! You girls looked fierce!!
